Muhammad Hanif Jakhura

Chief Executive Officer

 

Mr. Muhammad Hanif Jakhura is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) and the Institute of Corporate Secretaries of Pakistan (ICSP).

 

Mr. Jakhura joined CDC in 1994 and after serving as General Manager and Executive Director from 1994 to 2002 was elevated to the position of CEO in March 2002. Mr. Jakhura was also appointed as the first Chief Executive Officer of National Clearing Company of Pakistan Ltd. (NCCPL) in January 2002 and served in that position as well up to September, 2005. He has the distinction of successfully implementing Central Depository System and National Clearing System in Pakistan linking the users of these systems across Pakistan. Mr. Jakhura is currently serving as a Director of Institute of Capital Markets and an Independent Director of National Commodity Exchange Limited.  He was amongst the first batch of participants who completed the course conducted by Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance (PICG) for Certified Directors in 2007.

 

He also served as the Chairman of the Committee to Review Institutional Arrangement for Financing Stock Brokers and Stock Market Investors and Member of Margin Financing Committee formed by Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan. He has represented CDC at various international forums including Association of National Numbering Agencies based in Brussels (ANNA), International Securities Services Association (ISSA), Central Securities Depositories (CSDs) and Asia-Pacific Central Depositories Group (ACG).  He has also served as the Chairman of Asia-Pacific Central Depositories Group for the year 2006-07.

 


Aftab Ahmed Diwan

Chief Operating Officer

 

Mr. Aftab Ahmed Diwan started his career with Citibank in 1981. During his long stay with the bank, he had varied exposure in different operational and business areas, which also included offshore assignments. Among the areas in which he served locally were Financial Control, Credit and Worldwide Securities Services. In addition to the local assignments he also served Citibank Romania as Securities Business Manager looking after both business and operational activities and Citibank United Kingdom as Project Co-coordinator for Securities-related Cash Exception Project.

He left Citibank in May 1999 and joined Central Depository Company as Head of Operations and, since 2004, has been serving as Chief Operating Officer. He has represented CDC at various international forums including the Association of National Numbering Agencies (ANNA) and Asia-Pacific Central Depositories Group (ACG). He has also served as the Chairman of the Consultative Group on Capital Markets, formed by the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan, from May, 2009 to September, 2010. 


Ejaz Ali Shah

Head of Marketing & Customer Support Services

 

Mr. Ejaz Ali Shah obtained Bachelor of Business Administration (M. I. S.) from the University of Oklohama, U. S. A. in 1989.

 

He has served as a Systems Analyst/Programmer Analyst in Cordoba Corporation, Los Angeles from November 1989 to January 1992. Later he worked with the Management Automation Group as a Project Manager from January 1992 to February 1994 and in Fidelity Investment Bank Limited as Manager, Money & Capital Markets, from February 1994 to March 1997. He is a senior member of International Public Relations Association (IPRA) since 2004.

 


Fazal Gaffoor

Chief Financial Officer & Company Secretary

 

Mr. Fazal Hussain Gaffoor is a Fellow Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan. He has completed audit-training period  with A. F. Ferguson & Co. Chartered Accountants, a member firm of PWC in 1990. He is also a Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) , Certified Information System Auditor (CISA), Certified in  Risk and Information System Control (CRISC) and a Certified Director.

 

He has over 19 years of experience at senior positions starting as Manager Taxation from 1992 to 1996 with A. F. Ferguson & Co. and later as Head of Finance and Accounts at Khadim Ali Shah Bukhari Company Limited from June 1996 to September 1997. Thereafter he joined Jardine Fleming Pakistan (JP Morgan Chase) in September 1997 and worked as Country Senior Financial Officer and Compliance Officer till April 2001. Prior to joining CDC in September 2003, he worked as a Group Financial Controller in iHilal Financial Services FZ LLC, a leading financial group in Dubai, UAE, for two years. Prior to assuming the role of CFO and Company Secretary in CDC  he has also served as Chief Internal Auditor for a period of over 7 years.

 

He is presently serving on ICAP committees on Professional Accountant in Business and Continuing Professional Education. He has also served in the past on the Boards of ISACA and IIA Karachi Chapter. He is also a member of the Association for Certified Fraud Examiners. A regular speaker at both local and International forums speaking on topics including, Risk, Compliance, Internal Audit, Fraud Detection and Corporate Governance. 

 


Muhammad Junaid Shekha

Chief Internal Auditor

 

Mr. Muhammad Junaid Shekha is a Fellow member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan and Institute of Cost & Management Accountants of Pakistan. He is also certified by the Institute of Internal Auditors, USA.

 

He joined CDC in the year 2006 in the Internal Audit department and later on worked in Product Development and Operation Departments before assuming the role of Chief Internal Auditor in July 2011.  In addition to his current role, he serves on the CSR Committee at CDC and has also acted as the alternate business continuity manager for two years.

 

He began his career as a trainee with A. F. Ferguson & Co (A member firm of Price Waterhouse Coopers), Chartered Accountants from where he completed his chartered accountancy mandatory training period.  In 1998, he joined and remained associated with Ernst & Young Working in the Assurance Department in Ford Rhodes Sidat Hyder and in Financial Services Office in its UK office.  In 2004, Junaid joined PharmEvo (Private) Limited as Head of Finance, a pharmaceutical manufacturing & marketing company in the private sector.

 

Junaid is presently serving on the ICAP committee for the Professional Accountant in Business (PAIB) and is also a member of ICAP's XBRL task force.  Junaid is also actively involved in community service.  He is serving as the honarary general secretary of Memon Professional Forum looking after various administration aspects and organizing networking and awareness raising events. 

 


Syed Asif Shah 

Chief Information Officer

 

Syed Asif Shah has obtained Masters in Computer Science as a position holder from the University of Karachi in 1994. He started his professional career as an Analyst/Programmer in the Information Systems department of ORIX Leasing Pakistan. In late 1997, he joined the Information Technology department of CDC and looked after various functions as Manager Database Administration, Manager Application Systems, Project Manager National Clearing & Settlement System (NCSS) and Manager IT Systems & Services.

 

In early 2003, he assumed the position of Head of Information Technology. Under his lead, the IT department successfully deployed NCSS and carried out the re-engineering of Central Depository System. In late 2006, he took over the rank of Chief Information Officer looking after Information Technology as well as Enterprise Security functions. He has represented CDC at various professional forums organized in Pakistan, USA, UK, France, China, Singapore, India, UAE, Bahrain, Bangladesh and Ghana.  

 


Atiqur Rehman

Head of Trustee & Custodial Services Unit I

 

Mr. Atiqur Rehman has obtained his Bachelors of Commerce Degree from University of Karachi. He completed four years training from KPMG – Taseer Hadi Khalid & Co. as required by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan in December 1996 and is a Chartered Accountancy finalist.

 

He joined Central Depository Company in March 1997 and served as a member of the Operations Department, which successfully helped develop and implement the automated Central Depository System (CDS) and National Clearing & Settlement System (NCSS). He has served as Head of Product Development & UAT in February 2004 and headed the re-engineering project of Central Depository System. Subsequently, he has served as Head of Application Development department in July 2005 and supervised the implementation of IVR, Web, Unique Identification Number (UIN) and several other modules in CDS & NCSS. Currently he is serving as Head of Trustee and Custodial Operations since July 2006. 

 


Farooq Hussain

Head of Administration

 

Mr. Farooq Hussain obtained Bachelors of Commerce from the University of Karachi and subsequently completed Bachelors of Law.

 

He joined Central Depository Company in 1995 as Administration Officer and has been active in the development of administrative procedures and policies since the inception of the Company. He has obtained over ten years of experience in front line management. He is the Head of Administration and looks after the administrative affairs including physical security and network of branches across Pakistan. He is also actively involved in the construction of CDC House Karachi and the renovation of CDC Lahore & Islamabad Branches and CDC KSE and Progressive Plaza offices in Karachi.

 


Abdul Samad

Head of Trustee & Custodial Services Unit II and Share Registrar Services(SRS)  

 

Mr. Abdul Samad obtained his Bachelors of Commerce from University of Karachi in 1991. He served as Management Consultant from 1991 to 1992 and completed four years mandatory training under Chartered Accountants Bye-Laws with KPMG-Taseer Hadi Khalid & Co, Chartered Accountants in June 1995. He has qualified as a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) in November 1997 and was admitted as a Fellow Member of ICAP in 2008.

 

In July 1996, he joined the Operations Department of Central Depository Company and served as a member of the team that successfully launched the CDC Master Implementation Plan that led to the implementation of fully-automated Central Depository System. He was later appointed as the Head of Operations in November 2005. He assumed the role of Head of Share Registrar Services (SRS) in 2008.

 

Presently he is serving as the Head of Trustee and Custodial Operations Unit –II and Share Registrar Services.

 


Muhammad Anwar Gopalani

Head of Human Resources

 

Mr. Muhammad Anwar Gopalani obtained his Bachelors in Law from S. M. Law College and received Masters in Political Science from Karachi University in 1987 and 1989 respectively. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in “Labour Administration & Industrial Welfare” from National Institute of Labour Administration & Training. He has received ‘Trainer for Leadership’ training from B&W, USA and is an accredited MBTI practitioner from CAPT, USA.

 

He has served on the Board of Governors of Pakistan Society for Training & Development, Member Scholarship Committee of Petroleum Institute of Pakistan and a Certified Professional of Australian Human Resource Institute.

 

With the above diverse educational background, he has been in the profession of Human Resource for more than 20 years. He has worked with top of the line multinational and national companies like Philips Electrical Industries, Merck Sharp & Dohme and Sui Southern Gas Company Ltd. He joined CDC as Head of Human Resources in August 2008.
