CDC conducts Element Training Program 2018

CDC successfully conducted its flagship Element Training Program from April 23-26, 2018 in Karachi and May 2-4, 2018 in Lahore and Islamabad. This biennial training aimed at providing CDS Elements information about the latest developments in the system as well as the procedures and regulations to be followed in respect of CDS operations.

The sessions also offered our valued clients an opportunity to refresh their understanding about the roles and responsibilities that result from their association with CDS and direct access to CDC personnel for resolution of any queries or concerns.

The training was jointly conducted by Operations and Customer Support Services and Legal, Compliance & Risk Department and was organized by PD and Marketing Department of CDC.

Islamic Investment Awareness sessions organized in collaboration with PSX and Al Meezan Investments in Karachi

A series of Investor Awareness Seminars was conducted in Karachi as part of CDC’s collaborative efforts with Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) and Al Meezan Investments. These seminars were organized for residents of Gulshan e Iqbal and North Nazimabad and for members of Karachi Club to provide in-depth understanding about Islamic investment options available in Pakistan Capital Market.

The three sessions were attended by over 1000 people. Mr. Talha Anwar, Head of Sales, Al Meezan Investments briefed the audience at the events about Shariah compliant options of investment in Mutual Funds available in Pakistan. Mr. Shuja Qureshi represented PSX and discussed various ways of saving and investing in stocks. From CDC, Mr. Shariq Naseem, Head of Product Development and Marketing discussed CDC’s role in ensuring investor protection and the protective measures investors should take before investing in Capital Market. He also informed the audience about the new services offered by CDC such as eDividend service which brings more efficiency and transparency to the entire process of cash benefits disbursement.

A highlight of these seminars was a separate area set-up by CDC and Al Meezan Investments to offer one-on-one guidance to the audience.

CDC delegates participated in the 20th ACG Cross Training Seminar held in Shanghai, China

As the sole securities depository of Pakistan, CDC represents Pakistan Capital Market on various regional and international platforms. One of such eminent forums is the Asia Pacific Central Securities Depositories Group (ACG).

Established in 1997, ACG is a representative forum of all the depositories and clearing houses of the Asia-Pacific region which seeks to promote mutual assistance among member organizations. Mr. Aftab Ahmad Diwan, CEO-CDC, is the Vice Chairman of the ACG Executive Committee.

Every year, ACG organizes a cross training seminar for its member organizations, providing a platform for exchange of ideas and expertise between regional CSDs. This year, the 20th Cross Training Seminar was held in Shanghai, China and a six member delegation of CDC participated in the event.

The delegates from CDC shared ideas over diverse matters with members of other depositories and also briefed them about the local practices and developments of Pakistan Capital Market.

Around 100 delegates from 16 countries participated in the training.

CDC Share Registrar Services offers e-voting facility

To facilitate Pakistan Capital Market investors, CDC’s Share Registrar Services recently launched eVoting service. It is a web based electronic infrastructure through which shareholders can register themselves and cast their votes electronically (when required) through internet during the poll / election of directors.

In general, eVoting is a facility through which shareholders (holding securities in both physical and book entry form) can cast their votes electronically on resolutions of listed companies (including election of Directors) without having the need to send their voting papers in physical form through registered post / courier.

Dividend/Zakat & Tax Deduction Summary Report introduced on CDC’s eServices portal

In order to facilitate investors, a Dividend/Zakat & Tax Deduction Summary Report has been made available on CDC- eServices portal under eDividend tab. Through this report, shareholders can view summary of all cash dividends received against securities during a financial year at one place. The report also provides details such as amount of gross and net dividend, tax and zakat deductions, and date of payment of dividend. Moreover, it will help shareholders in filing their tax returns.

CDC has also started sending Dividend / Zakat & Tax Deduction Report to shareholders through email once data pertaining to dividend disbursement by listed company has been uploaded by respective Share Registrar on the eServices portal. The email is sent to shareholders having their valid email addresses available in their respective CDS accounts in case of book entry securities or as per the records available with respective Share Registrar for physical securities.

The eServices registration process has also been made simpler and easier which would help encourage shareholders to use the portal and have easy access to their Dividend details.
