In 2014-15, the Central Depository Company of Pakistan organized several seminars which were conducted across the country in multiple cities like Karachi, Sukkur, Daharki, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Abbottabad and also in Mirpur and Muzaffarabad in Azad Kashmir. Furthermore, many other seminars were also organized for the benefit of university students to solidify the partnership between industry and academia. ICAP, ICMAP, Sukkur IBA, SZABIST, University of Azad & Jammu Kashmir, and Greenwich University extended their support by participating in these sessions.
The seasoned staff of CDC enlightened the participants and addressed major concerns that are prevalent throughout the market. These seminars were geared towards informing investors about their roles and responsibilities with respect to the operations of the capital market as well as the measures that can be taken to safeguard their investments. The audience were also briefed about CDC’s roles, responsibilities and service offerings which included the introduction of free-of-cost CDC access portfolio.
These seminars have proven to be very successful and the feedback received shows promising incentive to further such collaborations and increase the outreach of this endeavor. There was a high level of attendance and participation in each session and the feedback was positive with a unanimous request for more such initiatives to be taken, with the presence of other entities as well.
Enhancing investor awareness is at the cornerstone of capital market development. By strengthening the confidence of the investor community and related stakeholders, we can bridge the gaps that currently prevail and bring about transformational changes for the betterment of the economy and ultimately the country.
